ABDULLAH WINS ARAB LEAGUE FOR INCREDIBLE NINTH TIME

Saudi Equestrian’s Abdullah Al Sharbatly continues to dominate show jumping in the Middle East by topping the FEI World Cup™ Arab League Jumping Table 2014/15 for an unprecedented ninth time last week.

The final leg took place at CSI 3*-W Al Ain, in the UAE last weekend and Al Sharbatly’s fourth place in the 1.30m competition on his 14-year-old gelding, Unique was enough to take top spot and secure his place at the FEI World Cup™ Jumping Finals in Las Vegas which take place on 15-19 April 2015.

From the opening leg in Tetouan, Morocco back in October 2014, Al Sharbatly always held an advantage, but close on his heals throughout was Qatar’s Bassem Hassan Mohammed. In the end, it was the Saudi rider who edged ahead at the pinnacle point, taking the title by 10 points.  Since the inception of the FEI World Cup™ Arab League ten years ago, there has only been one occasion where Al Sharbatly has not won it, which was when he was out of action due to injury.

Speaking afterwards, Abdullah said: “I am very happy to win the Arab League again. My horses jumped really well throughout the past few months and so I was always able to feel comfortable.”

He continued: “I am excited about going to Las Vegas to compete at the Longines FEI World Cup™ Finals and my plan is to ride Tobalio there. The first time I competed in the FEI World Cup™ Final 10 years ago was in Las Vegas, so it is very nice to be able to return there.”

2014 was a formidable year for the 32-year-old, winning numerous Grands Prix and individual gold medal at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games. His highlight of the year, however, was reaching No.25 in the Longines FEI World Rankings – a personal best.

Looking ahead to 2015, Al Sharbatly said: “My goal this year is to be in the Top 10 of the World Rankings. I have bought some lovely new horses to help me do this, including Varo M from Daniel Neilson at the start of the year. I have also just bought back Little Pezi from Amre Hamcho. He is a very nice gelding that I used to ride a couple of seasons ago.”
