PRESLEY BOY

It is with heavy hearts that Saudi Equestrian announce the passing of the great stallion, Presley Boy, after a long battle with a laminitis disease.

The 17-year-old by Concorde was retired from competition in 2012 due to injury. He had been standing at stud at ECR De Moretter in Belgium since February 2014. However, he had endured two long years fighting laminitis. Sadly after a long list of complications it was decided the kindest and most respectful decision for this amazing sire, was to put him to sleep.

Presley Boy was one of the most highly regarded horses on the international show jumping circuit, clocking up major wins all over the world; Gijon, Arezzo, Monterrey, Madrid, Spruce Meadows, Wellington, Mannheim, Guangzhou, St Gallen, Aachen, Abu Dhabi and Doha to name a few. He competed successfully in his early years under Mexican rider, Jamie Azcarraga and joined Saudi Equestrian in 2010 where he immediately formed a strong bond with rider Khaled Al Eid. He continued to excel under Al Eid’s stewardship, including winning the CSI5* Gijon Grand Prix in 2010, second in the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi 2011 and twelfth at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky 2010.

In 2012, Presley Boy and Al Eid were firmly on target for the London 2012 Olympic Games, but a month before the Games he was struck with lameness and had to be withdrawn. His retirement from competition was announced shortly afterwards.

During his time standing at ECR De Morette in Belgium since February 2014, he and was able to cover a handful of mares, ensuring him a lasting legacy.

Saudi Equestrian would like to thank all those who have devoted many hours caring for and rehabilitating Presley Boy in the last two years, including the Equine Clinic De Morette in Belgium.
