SHARBATLY GOES CLOSE IN VALKENSWAARD & CEZANNE RETURNS FROM INJURY

Saudi Equestrian riders Abdullah Al Sharbatly and Kamal Bahamdan were competing in Spain and Holland last weekend and enjoyed positive results with horses which are currently showing good form.

Abdullah Al Sharbatly was unlucky not to have a win this weekend at CSI5* Gijon, but instead was placed second on Tobalio and third on Andrea.

Sharbatly narrowly missed out on the top podium position with Tobalio (pictured above) by just 1.19 seconds in the HRH Prince of Asturias Trophy (1m60) on Thursday afternoon in the second round jump-off. The following day, Sharbatly rode chestnut mare Andrea in the Massimo Dutti 1m45 Speed Final but despite jumping a faultless round, his time was not quite quick enough and he had to settle for third position.

Kamal Bahamdan was in action at the CSI5* Global Champions Tour in Valkenswaard (NED) last weekend, where he rode Noblesse des Tess. Competing in the opening class on Friday, the Medium Tour 1m45 Two Phases Special, his mare unfortunately knocked one pole down at the second obstacle in the first round meaning Bahamdan was unable to progress to the next stages.

Bahamdan also competed with grey gelding, Cezanne in the CSI2* at Valkenswaard which was running alongside the GCT on the same weekend. Cezanne has not competed at international level since February, but produced an encouraging performance after his break. Bahamdan and Cezanne made it through to the jump-off in the Final of the Medium Tour 1m40, but with one pole down Bahamdan settled for a respectable eleventh place.
